I ran a crowdsource campaign on our e-commerce store for a children’s board book that my wife wrote and in 7 days, we generated $20,000 in sales.
In this post, I want to share with you the specific tools I used to make it all happen. In full disclosure, some of the links below are affiliate links which means that I’ll make a small commission at no extra cost to you if you buy through these links.
Here we go!
E-commerce platform: Shopify
Shopify makes selling online super easy. Because of that, there are over 500,000 active Shopify stores online right now and it’s only growing! Shopify has run Build-A-Business Competitions where the winners have gotten business mentorship from the likes of Tim Ferriss, Tony Robbins, and Richard Branson.
For our e-commerce store (which can be found at hmongbaby.com), we use Shopify because it’s super intuitive. If you are familiar with the backend in WordPress, then you’ll get used to Shopify in no time. In addition, I like how Shopify allows us to sell physical and digital products with ease.
Shopify adds versatility with a thriving app store where developers can create plugins to add extra functionality for your store.
Shopify Crowdsource App: Crowdfunder
If you have a Shopify store and want to create your own crowdsource campaign to capture preorders for a product, then look no further than Crowdfunder. Installation was a breeze and their support responded within 24 hours to a question that I had.
Shopify Countdown Timer App: Countdown Timer by POWr.io
Our preorder window for our children’s board book was only 7 days. To reinforce this point, we had a countdown timer on our landing page and also on our product page where you preorder the book. Seeing the clock tick closer and closer to zero motivates people to take action because they know that their window of opportunity is literally closing. We used the Countdown Timer app by POWr.io. It was simple to place on our online shop and they offer a free version which is what we used.
Shopify Chat App: Facebook Chat by Beeketing
One of the biggest reasons why site visitors don’t make a purchase is because they have a question that they don’t know the answer to and instead of taking the time to find the contact page and emailing the merchant, most folks simply exit the store. Adding a chat option to your e-commerce store can increase sales because now customers can quickly and conveniently ask their questions without going through a convoluted contact page or opening up their email app. The best chat app that we’ve used on our Shopify store is the Facebook Chat app by Beeketing. We like it because 1) it’s easy to install 2) most people have Facebook and 3) it’s FREE. In addition, if you use a Messenger marketing service like ManyChat, then whenever someone messages you via Facebook Messenger, they are automatically added to your Messenger Subscriber List which you can use like an email list.
Landing Page Creator: LeadPages
I used LeadPages to create a simple landing page for folks who wanted to join our book launch team, a group of folks who helped promote our book for us. In exchange for their email and an honest Amazon review, folks got the opportunity to download the digital version of our children’s book for free for a limited time. LeadPages makes creating landing pages very easy with it’s drag and drop feature.
All of these tools provided a particular function that saved me time which equaled dollars. See if these tools might help you as well.
